    Position Overview

    The Rockefeller Foundation has committed $100 million to boost job creation and strengthen work attachment in distressed communities across the United States.

    The Manager, Policy Communications for U.S. Programs & Policy (USPP) plays a vital role in translating strategic insights, impact, and learning into compelling narratives that shape policy and influence practice.

    Reporting to the Managing Director, Policy & Advocacy, this role collaborates closely with the Foundation’s Communications team to align storytelling with program objectives, elevating impact stories at local, state, and national levels.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Communications Development

    • Develop and manage an annual comprehensive communications strategy aligned with USPP program priorities and broader philanthropic goals.
    • Identify key moments for digital campaigns, earned media, and thought leadership initiatives.
    • Translate complex programmatic work, including research and community partnerships, into persuasive messaging for policymakers, partners, and philanthropic audiences.

    Content Creation and Stakeholder Engagement

    • Produce high-quality communication assets such as briefs, speeches, memos, reports, digital content, and presentations.
    • Collaborate with the central Communications team to ensure messaging coherence with brand standards.
    • Support leadership in media engagements, convenings, panels, and stakeholder meetings.

    Project and Vendor Management

    • Oversee project management systems to track and deliver key initiatives.
    • Manage external vendors and consultants, ensuring quality and timely execution.
    • Coordinate review processes, including legal and policy reviews.

    Impact Measurement and Thought Leadership

    • Assess the effectiveness of communication efforts through qualitative and quantitative methods.
    • Serve as a thought partner to program leadership on narrative positioning.
    • Contribute to cross-foundation learning on storytelling and influence strategies.

    Educational and Professional Requirements

    • 7-10 years of experience in communications, public policy, public affairs, or related fields.
    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, journalism, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
    • Experience within philanthropy, nonprofit, government, or mission-driven organizations highly preferred.

    • Demonstrated ability to translate complex policy work into accessible content.
    • Strong writing, editorial, and digital engagement skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Willingness to travel as needed.
