Program Overview

The Young Advocates Program is open to individuals ages 18–34 who live in or attend school in California, Colorado, or Texas. The program provides a structured, cohort‑based experience where participants collaborate weekly and engage in hands‑on advocacy projects.

7. Recruitment & Mobilization
   • Encouraging other young adults to participate in community action.

Time Commitment & Structure

Program Dates:

Weekly Session Times:

• California: Fridays, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm PT (virtual)

  • Tuesdays, 4:00 – 6:30 pm CT (virtual)
  • Fridays, 12:00 – 2:30 pm CT (virtual)
  • In‑person meetings on the last Friday of each month

Additional Expectations:

• Attend Orientation on September 18, 2026 (in person)
• Attend Program Close on December 11, 2026 (in person)
• Participate in in‑person events such as:
  • Policy Shark Tank
  • State of Young California
  • Community outreach events
• Attend weekly sessions with cameras on
• Attend two in‑person meetings per month
• Complete assignments between sessions

Compensation

Advocates are paid hourly for training and project work, averaging 6–10 hours per week.

Hourly Pay Rates by State:

• California: $18.42
• Colorado: $19.29
• Texas: $15.00

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Must be 18 or older
• Must be eligible to work in the United States
• Must commit to the entire program duration
• Must align with YI’s mission, vision, and values
• Must demonstrate interest in higher education, healthcare, or workforce issues
• Must be able to work independently and collaboratively
• Must show professionalism, maturity, and initiative
• Must be creative, flexible, and able to thrive in a fast‑paced environment
• Must have access to a laptop and WiFi for virtual sessions
