Overview

This scholarship supports scientific research into human origins, specifically in the fields of earth sciences and botany across East Africa. It provides funding for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers engaged in field-based studies.

Eligibility

The scholarship is open to individuals from East African nations who meet specific academic and nationality requirements. Applicants must:

• Be of African heritage and citizens of eligible countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Djibouti, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, or Eritrea.
• Be enrolled in a graduate degree program or have completed a PhD within the past ten years.
• Be engaged in research in earth sciences or botany connected to human origins.
• Demonstrate a commitment to teaching and research in their home country after completing their studies.

Benefits

Applicants will receive significant research funding, including:

• Grants of up to $30,000 per award cycle.
• Support for research-related expenses including fieldwork travel, living expenses during research, and research supplies.
• Two annual application cycles: January 10 (spring) and July 15 (fall).
