Overview

This fellowship offers African researchers, postgraduate students, and community leaders an opportunity to contribute to transformative migration research through the AIReKEMA Project. It focuses on innovative approaches to migration governance, peacebuilding, and refugee inclusion across the continent.

Eligibility

• Postgraduate students (Master’s or PhD level) or early-career scholars
• Community leaders with experience in relevant research themes
• Proven record of engagement with migration, refugee, or policy issues
• Interest in border governance and peacebuilding
• Clear vision for advancing professional and research goals through the fellowship

Priority will be given to members of Indigenous communities, refugee communities, and candidates from East, West, and Southern Africa, as well as those enhancing regional and social diversity within the cohort.

Benefits

Successful applicants will receive:

• US$11,000 fellowship stipend
• US$1,800 research expense fund
• Part-time appointment for 12 months
• Academic mentorship from regional and international supervisors
• Co-supervision by faculty members from Carleton University and regional hubs
• Participation in project activities and workshops
• Remote access to Carleton University Library resources
• Opportunities to engage policymakers and regional organizations
• Support in translating research findings into policy-relevant outputs
