    SOAS University of London has announced applications for its 2026/27 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Scholarships, offering full tuition coverage and financial support to students pursuing master’s programmes linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

    The scholarship initiative is designed to support future leaders committed to sustainability, social justice, and regenerative development through postgraduate education and research.

    Scholarships Support Sustainability-Focused Master’s Degrees

    The SOAS Sustainable Development Goal Scholarships are open to students enrolling in any eligible one-year full-time taught master’s programme connected to one or more of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

    According to SOAS, the scholarships are intended for candidates who demonstrate:

    • Commitment to sustainable solutions
    • Responsible and ethical leadership
    • Critical thinking and innovation
    • Interest in creating a just and regenerative future
    • Engagement with sustainability-related global challenges

    The university stated that the programme aims to encourage academic work that redefines humanity’s relationship with the planet while contributing to global development priorities.

    Four Fully Funded Scholarships Available

    For the 2026/27 academic year, SOAS will award four scholarships.

    Each scholarship includes:

    • Full tuition fee coverage
    • Minimum maintenance stipend of £15,000
    • Support for one-year master’s study in London

    The scholarship does not cover pre-sessional courses.

    Eligibility Requirements for Applicants

    The scholarship is open to both Home and Overseas applicants.

    Eligible candidates must:

    • Be applying for a new admission starting in the 2026/27 academic year
    • Apply for a full-time one-year taught master’s programme linked to sustainability goals
    • Hold, or expect to receive, a first-class honours degree or international equivalent
    • Demonstrate strong academic performance through transcripts and references

    Applicants with a UK 2:1 degree classification may still apply, although preference will be given to first-class candidates.

    Candidates are not required to have received an admission offer before the scholarship deadline. However, applicants must hold an unconditional offer before the scholarship selection panel convenes.

    Assessment Based on Academic Merit and Sustainability Alignment

    According to SOAS, scholarship applications will be assessed by a selection panel using both academic and sustainability-focused criteria.

    Assessment areas include:

    • Academic achievement
    • Personal statement quality
    • Alignment between chosen programme and sustainability goals
    • Commitment to sustainable development and social impact

    The university noted that applicants should ensure all admissions documentation is complete and submitted on time, as late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

    Application Process for the Scholarship

    The application process consists of two stages.

    Step One: Apply for a Master’s Programme

    Candidates must first apply for an eligible master’s programme at SOAS.

    Step Two: Apply for the Scholarship

    After submitting a programme application, candidates can access the scholarship application through the admissions portal.

    Key dates include:

    • Application deadline: June 12, 2026 at 12 noon UK time

    Applicants who cannot see the scholarship option in the admissions portal are advised to verify eligibility requirements or contact the scholarships office.

    Notification Timeline for Successful Candidates

    SOAS stated that scholarship selection and shortlisting processes are expected to conclude from July 2026 onwards.

    Successful applicants will be contacted first, while unsuccessful candidates will be notified after all awards have been allocated.
