    Overview

    The Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI) offers an opportunity for an Early Career Ocean Professional to support Area-Based Management under the BBNJ Agreement. This role involves developing guidance on ecological criteria for identifying protected areas in the high seas and contributing to international conservation efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct initial assessments of ecological criteria feasibility.
    • Design and facilitate expert and stakeholder workshops.
    • Co-author IUCN technical reports and related publications.
    • Develop policy briefs and presentations for stakeholder engagement.
    • Collaborate closely with international partners and report to Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada.

    Requirements

    Basic Qualifications:

    • PhD in natural or social sciences, humanities, or equivalent experience.

    Required Experience:

    • Minimum of three years in spatial data analysis, marine science, environmental science, or marine policy.
    • Deep-sea science background.
    • Experience with High Seas conservation or BBNJ process is an asset.

    Benefits

    The contract is negotiable, up to May 2027, based on percent time (50-100%).

    This is a remote working position.
