Overview

The Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI) offers an opportunity for an Early Career Ocean Professional to support Area-Based Management under the BBNJ Agreement. This role involves developing guidance on ecological criteria for identifying protected areas in the high seas and contributing to international conservation efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct initial assessments of ecological criteria feasibility.
Design and facilitate expert and stakeholder workshops.
Co-author IUCN technical reports and related publications.
Develop policy briefs and presentations for stakeholder engagement.
Collaborate closely with international partners and report to Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

PhD in natural or social sciences, humanities, or equivalent experience.

Required Experience:

Minimum of three years in spatial data analysis, marine science, environmental science, or marine policy.
Deep-sea science background.
Experience with High Seas conservation or BBNJ process is an asset.

Benefits

The contract is negotiable, up to May 2027, based on percent time (50-100%).

This is a remote working position.
