Job Title: Carbon Markets Policy Associate

Job Summary
The Nature Conservancy is seeking a Carbon Markets Policy Associate to support and advance policy engagement on carbon markets across Europe.
This role involves shaping policies that enable high-integrity carbon markets, promoting nature-based solutions in climate action, and fostering strategic relationships with policymakers and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Advocate TNC’s policy recommendations on high-integrity carbon markets, the EU framework for international carbon credits, and the role of nature-based carbon credits.
- Engage with EU institutions, Member States, and key stakeholders to inform and influence carbon markets policy.
- Develop and implement advocacy plans that support global nature-based solutions within European climate and carbon markets policies.
- Conduct policy research and analysis of relevant EU policies related to nature-based carbon credits.
- Monitor policy developments and political milestones at European, national, and global levels.
- Draft tailored policy recommendations based on scientific and economic data.
- Build and manage strategic relationships with NGOs, trade associations, think tanks, and other stakeholders.
- Organize meetings, briefings, and events to promote TNC’s policy work.
- Manage budgets, negotiate with vendors, and support fundraising efforts.
- Collaborate across divisions to ensure the achievement of policy objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Skills
- University degree in climate, environment, economics, policy, public affairs, or related field.
- Minimum five years of professional experience in policy, public affairs, carbon markets, or climate-related fields.
- Fluency in English with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven experience working with government agencies, partners, and the corporate sector.
- Strong analytical skills and experience translating data into policy solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects and ensure program accountability.
- Experience in policy advocacy, especially within the EU context, on climate policy and carbon markets.
- Knowledge of voluntary and compliance carbon markets, both in Europe and globally.
- Ability to build coalitions and manage multi-sector partnerships.
- Strong relationship-building and political savvy.
Preferred Skills
- Multi-lingual skills and cross-cultural experience.
- Experience drafting policy briefings, reports, and analysis.
- Familiarity with stakeholder engagement across governmental and non-governmental sectors.
- Ability to work independently within a collaborative, matrixed organization.
- Innovative thinking and ability to develop new approaches.
