    About the Opportunity

    The Capacity Building Specialist [Lead Trainer] will support the implementation of the ninth edition of UNAOC’s Young Peacebuilders programme.     The selected candidate will work under the administrative and financial responsibility of UNOPS while supporting the programme activities of UNAOC, an initiative established by the United Nations Secretary-General to promote intercultural and interreligious dialogue globally.

    The consultancy contract is initially expected to run until 31 December 2026, with the possibility of extension until September 2027 based on performance, funding availability, and operational needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Capacity Building Specialist [Lead Trainer] will lead several core programme components, including curriculum design, facilitation, mentoring, and participant support.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Designing educational content and learning materials for:
      • Online modules
      • Face-to-face workshops
      • Implementation activities
      • Final symposium sessions
    • Facilitating online learning sessions and interactive discussions
    • Supporting participant engagement on digital learning platforms
    • Leading in-person training workshops
    • Mentoring participants during project implementation
    • Monitoring participant action plans and progress
    • Supporting final symposium activities when required
    • Preparing mid-review and final programme reports
    • Supporting logistics coordination if requested

    The role combines programme implementation, peace education, facilitation, mentorship, and stakeholder engagement responsibilities.

    Programme Structure

    The Young Peacebuilders programme is divided into four phases:

    Online Learning Phase

    Participants engage in collaborative online learning over several months, exploring peacebuilding concepts and intercultural dialogue through guided discussions and assignments.

    Face-to-Face Workshop

    Participants attend an intensive in-person workshop focused on practical training, group collaboration, and action plan development.

    Implementation Phase

    Participants implement local peacebuilding projects with mentorship and technical guidance from programme facilitators.

    Final Symposium

    Participants present lessons learned, project outcomes, and experiences to policymakers, practitioners, and public audiences during a concluding symposium.

    Required Qualifications

    Applicants must possess strong expertise in peace education, intercultural dialogue, and youth-focused learning programmes.

    Minimum qualifications include:

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in:
      • Peace education
      • Conflict and development studies
      • Political science
      • International relations
      • Social sciences
      • Humanitarian studies
      • Public administration
      • Related fields

    Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and additional relevant professional experience may also be considered.

    Required Experience

    Candidates must demonstrate:

    • Experience in peace education
    • Experience designing and facilitating learning programmes for multicultural youth
