    The International Detention Coalition (IDC) has announced an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals to join its team as an Africa Programme Officer. This role is designed for a highly organized, motivated, and impact-driven individual with a strong background in migration, human rights advocacy, and programme coordination.

    About the Organization

    The International Detention Coalition (IDC) is a global network comprising over 200 civil society organizations and individuals across more than 75 countries. The organization works collaboratively with its members and partners to advocate for the elimination of immigration detention and to promote rights-based, humane alternatives. IDC’s work spans advocacy, research, capacity building, and coalition strengthening at national, regional, and global levels.

    Role Purpose

    The Africa Programme Officer will support IDC’s mission across the African region by combining strong project coordination abilities with in-depth knowledge of migration and human rights advocacy. The role requires a proactive individual capable of managing projects, coordinating events, supporting advocacy initiatives, and strengthening partnerships with stakeholders across the region.

    Role Summary

    Working closely with the Africa Regional Manager, the Programme Officer will contribute to the design and implementation of regional programmes, advocacy strategies, and events. The role includes providing administrative, operational, research, and communications support while fostering strong engagement with IDC members, partners, policymakers, and other key stakeholders.

    The successful candidate will also be expected to travel within the region when required and contribute to strengthening IDC’s presence and impact in Africa.

    Key Responsibilities

    Project Implementation & Coordination

    • Provide technical, logistical, and administrative support for the implementation of regional and national projects and events.
    • Assist in managing timelines, deliverables, and follow-ups to ensure efficient programme execution.
    • Support IDC members and partners through coordination and network-building efforts.
    • Contribute to financial and administrative processes within the Africa Programme.

    Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Support the development and execution of advocacy strategies on immigration detention and migrant rights.
    • Engage with diverse stakeholders including governments, civil society organizations, UN agencies, and regional networks.
    • Assist in drafting advocacy materials, policy briefs, and communication outputs.
    • Identify advocacy opportunities and strengthen collaboration across the network.
    • Facilitate consultations, trainings, and regional dialogues promoting rights-based alternatives.

    Communication & Knowledge Sharing

    • Develop and disseminate digital and print communication materials, including social media content.
    • Monitor regional developments and media reports relevant to migration and human rights.
    • Share resources and updates with members across multiple platforms.

    Monitoring, Fundraising & Institutional Support

    • Contribute to fundraising initiatives by conducting research and supporting proposal development.
    • Assist in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) processes and reporting.
    • Maintain organized documentation of programme activities and stakeholder engagement.
    • Support financial tracking, budgeting, and reporting processes.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Essential Requirements

    • A university degree in International Relations, Law, Migration Studies, Political Science, or a related field
    • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in migration, human rights, or advocacy-related roles
    • Proven experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and reporting
    • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
    • Experience working with civil society, governments, and international organizations
    • Proficiency in digital tools and social media platforms
    • Ability to travel within the region as required
    • Fluency in both English and French (written and spoken)

    Compensation

    The position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from 12,000,000 to 16,000,000 CFA, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
