Job Summary
IUCN is seeking a highly qualified Soil Literacy Expert (Freelance) to provide strategic and technical support for the Curiosoil project, focusing on soil and environmental education in Europe.
The successful candidate will develop policy recommendations, support the integration of soil literacy into educational systems, and contribute to key deliverables aligned with European and global environmental and educational policies.
This consultancy offers an exciting opportunity to influence soil and environmental education at national and EU levels, working remotely across Europe.
Key Responsibilities
Development of Soil and Education Strategic Framework
- Prepare a comprehensive strategic brief establishing principles, insights, and actionable recommendations for soil literacy and education systems.
- Synthesize global and European insights, linking international trends with European policy frameworks.
- Draft a high-quality, standalone publication in Word format to guide policymakers and educational authorities.
Policy and Education System Engagement
- Provide expert input during the development of recommendations for educational authorities and policymakers.
- Support the promotion and uptake of project results across primary, secondary, tertiary, and vocational education sectors.
- Influence policy development at national and EU levels through evidence-based policy briefs and strategic documents.
Support for WP4 Deliverables
- Review and provide quality assurance for key WP4 outputs, including national workshops, policy briefs, and final reports.
- Ensure coherence, clarity, and policy relevance in all deliverables.
- Offer ongoing advisory support throughout the project duration (mid-2026 to December 2027).
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Membership or affiliation with the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication (CEC).
- Demonstrated expertise in environmental education, nature-based learning, and policy development.
- Strong understanding of soil health, sustainability, and environmental topics.
- Experience working with multi-country or EU-funded projects.
- Based in Switzerland or able to provide proof of self-employed status in Switzerland.
- Proven track record in producing policy briefs and strategic documents.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
