    Job Summary

    The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) is seeking three qualified part-time Course Instructors to deliver an online upper-division undergraduate course in Ecological Foundations of Restoration Ecology, offered through SER in partnership with the University of Montana.

    This fully remote role involves facilitating weekly discussions, grading assessments, and engaging with students via SER Learn and Zoom.

    The position offers a flat rate of USD $6,500 for the semester, with a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week during the course duration from September to December 2026.

    Position Description

    SER is looking for three experienced Course Instructors to support the delivery of the online course “NRSM 391 Ecological Foundations of Restoration Ecology,” which grants university credit from the University of Montana.

    The course runs from September to December 2026 and involves approximately 45 hours of online content plus 12 hours of synchronous Zoom discussions weekly.

    Instructors will lead discussions, assess student work, and support learners in a fully remote environment using SER Learn and Zoom.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Synchronous Facilitation: Lead 12 weekly Zoom discussion sessions, proctor exams, and create an engaging, respectful learning environment.
    • Assessment & Grading: Evaluate assignments, provide feedback, maintain the gradebook, and assign final grades.
    • Student Support & Communication: Monitor learner progress, respond to inquiries, and coordinate with the Lead Instructor and SER course operations.

    • Policy Compliance: Uphold course policies on attendance, academic integrity, and AI use.
    • Course Structure Management: Facilitate asynchronous activities (2 hours/week) and synchronous sessions (1 hour/week) including quizzes, discussions, reports, critiques, and exams.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Master’s degree or higher in ecology, restoration ecology, conservation science, or related field (PhD preferred).
    • Broad expertise in restoration ecology from species to landscape levels.

    • Strong communication skills and reliability in grading and responding to student inquiries.
    • Availability to conduct all scheduled synchronous sessions.
    • Experience with online teaching or facilitation is advantageous.

    Preferred

    • Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses or professional training.
    • Familiarity with Zoom and Learning Management Systems.
    • Ability to facilitate engaging online discussions and assessments.

    Time Commitment and Reporting

    • Estimated 10 hours/week for preparation and grading.
    • Approximately 4 hours/week for course review and discussion.

    • Around 3 hours/week for student progress assessment and reporting.
    • Office hours and student questions: approximately 3 hours/week.
    • The role reports to Dr. Cara Nelson (University of Montana) and SER course operations.

    Compensation and Work Environment

    • Flat rate of USD $6,500 per semester.
    • Fully remote work environment; applications accepted globally.
